Privacy Policy

PlasmidViewer · Last updated: July 8, 2026

PlasmidViewer ("the app") is a plasmid-map viewer for Mac, iPad and iPhone. Your privacy matters: the app is designed so that your sequence data stays with you.

What we collect

We do not collect any personal data. The app has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. We, the developer, do not receive, see, or store your sequences or any information about how you use the app.

Where your data lives

The plasmids, features, primers, and settings you create are stored on your device and, if you enable backup, in your own private iCloud account (Apple CloudKit private database). This data is controlled by you and your Apple Account. It is never sent to the developer's servers, because there are none.

Purchases

Subscriptions (PlasmidViewer Pro) are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment information. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Files you open

When you open or import a sequence file (.dna, GenBank, FASTA), it is read and rendered locally on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere.

Bundled reference data

The app includes feature and restriction-enzyme reference data from the iGEM Registry, FPbase (CC-BY-4.0), and REBASE, used under their respective licenses. This is static reference data shipped inside the app and involves none of your personal information.

Children's privacy

The app is rated 4+ and does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
